Hi Jane,

I have mentioned GSTRF several times before. It is one of my very few longs. The satellite telephony sector currently has exactly 3 competitors - GSTRF, IRID, and ICOGF. IRID has some massive problems and are probably done for. ICOGF is having serious difficulties with their financing and have a 50/50 chance of making it (my estimate). On top of that, they are not scheduled for startup until Fall 2000.

GSTRF has enough satellites in orbit to begin service in September and full coverage will be complete next year. Their proposed pricing is very good at less than $1 per minute, which will probably fall with subscribers. They have 2 of the strongest partners in the industry, Loral (satellites) and Qualcomm (mobile devices). I think that they will be the dominate player in the future.

Take a look at the GSTRF thread. It has some of the best posters on SI, bar none. Hope this helps.

Mike
