KPMG Selects NewsEdge for KWorld; KWorld Knowledge Management System Seamlessly Integrates Global News for More Than 95,000 KPMG Professionals Worldwide
Business Wire - May 27, 1999 07:59
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 1999--Online news leader NewsEdge Corporation (Nasdaq:NEWZ) today announced that it has been selected by KPMG to deliver global news solutions into KWorld, the international accounting, tax and consulting firm's advanced global knowledge management system. KWorld is a single, dynamic and universally accessible messaging, collaboration and knowledge-sharing platform. NewsEdge services integrated into KWorld will be rolled out in phases to more than 95,000 KPMG professionals around the world, allowing them access to both internal and external knowledge in the multiple contexts in which they work.

NewsEdge and KWorld both use standard components from Microsoft Corporation, making the customized integration of news into KWorld straightforward. NewsEdge and KPMG's KWorld solutions were both showcased at the Microsoft CEO Summit last week and were demonstrated by Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates.

NewsEdge will deliver global news services including global and multi-language content into the KWorld environment. External news from NewsEdge will be combined with KPMG's proprietary internal knowledge filters and organized into customized automated topics, leveraging intellectual capital at KPMG to benefit its clients around the world.

"Integrating NewsEdge into KWorld is another step toward making a reality of our mission of turning knowledge into value for the benefit of KPMG's clients, its people and its communities," said Michael J. Turillo, international chief knowledge officer at KPMG. "Our professionals and therefore our clients can tap into a unique storehouse of information - global, multi-language news delivered by NewsEdge, internal knowledge and the sharing of best practices. NewsEdge is helping us achieve our vision of knowledge as 'content in context' - the management and collaboration of our intellectual capital within a global taxonomy."

"KWorld is a great example of what we do best -- joining the latest news with internal information to create a true knowledge-sharing environment," said NewsEdge Corporation President and COO Cliff Pollan. "Giving KPMG professionals the most current global business news, tailored carefully to their needs and convenient to their working patterns can help make them more efficient, more informed and more competitive. KPMG has been an important NewsEdge customer for many years and we are pleased to be extending our relationship to the innovative KWorld Intranet."

A key component of KWorld is its customized library of filters, which was created to mirror the firm's global classification taxonomy of product offerings and market segments. The proprietary filters, developed by KPMG with assistance from SageWare, Inc., and supported by Omen Inc., are deployed by NewsEdge in an advanced technical environment; they are designed to grow and change as KPMG evolves, ensuring its professionals are brought together in the sharing environment of one, cohesive global firm.
