Mile, you are correct! EMC's move validates NTAP's market.

NTAP has been selling agains DGN-Clariion since day one. They know that product and they know how to beat it. The main problem has been in getting enough feet on the street to find the opportunities that Clariion has been winning. Clariion has a significant reseller network, so their sales penetration has been tough to beat.

Perhaps the Dell PowerVault deal will help, though Dell resells Clariion as well.

Clariion is also a SAN architecture rather than NAS. I believe that NTAP, in a fair fight, will beat Clariion every time, in terms of price/performance and reliability.

I am thinking about dumping my EMC shares for now, as I fear it may take a year for EMC to absorb DGN and get back on the 35% growth curve. I may be all wrong about this. It could be that EMC's existing customers give a boost to Clariion sales, but that may be at the expense of EMC's products.

veeeeerrrrrry interesting....
