Efficient Networks Adds to Line of SpeedStream DSL Routers

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 1999--Efficient Networks,
Inc., (Nasdaq:EFNT) a leading supplier of Digital Subscriber Line
(DSL) customer premises equipment (CPE), today introduced an addition
to its 5600 line of SpeedStream DSL routers.
The new SpeedStream 5621 delivers high-speed ADSL service to
multiple users within small businesses, branch offices and SOHO
environments.
"As the market for broadband access evolves, it's clear that
Efficient's strategy for offering a broad DSL product line meets the
needs of DSL service providers," said Peter Bourne, director of
product marketing at Efficient Networks. "The SpeedStream 5621
represents a key addition to our router family and further expands our
business-class DSL CPE offerings."
The SpeedStream 5621 is a cost-effective solution for network
operators, Internet service providers and end users that require
connections for multiple users to the Internet and corporate networks
through a single device. The new router utilizes Analog Devices' DMT
ADSL technology to provide high-speed data rates up to 8Mbps
downstream over a single copper phone line.
The SpeedStream 5621 is tested for compatibility and performance
with DSLAM and Digital Loop Carrier equipment from a number of leading
DSL equipment vendors. The new router also provides universal
compatibility with all major computer platforms, including PC, Linux,
and Apple Macintosh and iMac.
The 5621 offers complete protocol encapsulation support,
including Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over ATM, Ethernet over ATM,
and IP over ATM. These software features provide compatibility with
the majority of remote access servers and service offerings worldwide.
All Efficient Networks SpeedStream routers include a set of
high-performance routing and bridging features, providing
compatibility with commonly used protocols.
Ease of use features designed to maximize DSL service
availability include dynamic IP addressing, and built-in DHCP and DNS
servers. The SpeedStream 5621 also includes support for SNMP, which
provides network managers with standard device troubleshooting, and
detailed statistical reporting.
SNMP statistics are gathered and reported for the DSL, ATM and IP
layers, providing complete end-to-end issue isolation capabilities to
network operators and service providers. Additionally, the SpeedStream
5621 features an easy-to-use, Web browser configuration capability
that allows users to easily configure the modem in minutes using a
standard Web browser.
"Service providers are looking for vendors with a complete line
of DSL CPE for their small business, branch office and SOHO
customers," said Claude Romans, senior analyst at RHK, a telecom
industry analysis firm based in South San Francisco. "Efficient's
SpeedStream 5621 DSL router combines the features, flexibility, and
performance needed for business-class ADSL service."

Pricing & Availability

The SpeedStream 5621 has a suggested retail price of $595.00
(U.S.) and is available now. The product can be ordered through
Efficient Networks' sales channels, including directly from the
company and through authorized service providers and resellers.
