BCBob & thread,

I just got back from sunny Bakersfield.
ELH #1R started drilling last night at around 7pm. They should be drilling in the Temblor by now.

These rigs are absolutely huge!
They dwarf the large Hi-Tower and Brelco rigs that I have worked on (are they all Precision now? *ggg*), drilling foothills wells in Alberta.

I was only there for a couple of days and did see the Cal Canal well drilling, but since I didn't go on the lease, I don't know where they were drilling at.

The ELH #2 well is still rigging up. One of the guys that I managed to talk to said it is the largest land-based drilling rig in the world, and I believe him. They hadn't raised the derrick yet, but the entire rig was on the lease. The guy I talked to said that he thought they would be ready to drill in about 10-12 days.

One rig guy I talked with in the bar said that they had cemented the casing from 17,100' all the way to surface and had pressure tested it to 17,000psi which should easily handle anything the well throws at them. Bear in mind that this guy was a very "unofficial" but reliable source.
I also learned that the drawworks on the ELH #1R rig are powered by 2000 hp rig motors. The drawworks on the ELH #2 rig are powered by 3000 hp rig motors and the rig is rated to drill at 30,000'.

It was really interesting to drive through the Lost Hills, South Belridge and Midway-Sunset fields, with thousands of pump jacks all closer together than an inner city housing project.
I think we will be adding a few more wellheads to the region!

It should be an active week.
Happy trading.
