Besides, there do exist merger scenarios which include companies who would make ATHM go. Jermo doesn't want to preside over a utility company. He wants the media company concept too. It's the only hope for ATHM to survive the 2002 boundary.

What's chance that AT&T just leave AMZN/EXCITE alone without forcing a Excite spin-off? The fact is AOL can't get in cable distribution until 2002 boundary. Why would AT&T bother to cut ATHM's wing by spinning off a media asset that ATHM so desire to survive? Is ATT in the process of restructuring ATHM so that they can be reduced to a dumb pipe company? ATHM being a dumb pipe, they will become in essence a communication company similar to ATT's business, why wouldn't it make sense for ATT to buy ATHM by first reducing it to a dumb pipe, then a few years later, devour it.

I hope ATT can leave E@H alone, let it grow and see what kind of fruits it bring. It won't be too late for ATT to chop it until 2002.
