PRIMUS Receives High Honors in Independent Survey of Multinational Telecommunications Users

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 1999--PRIMUS Telecommunications Group, Incorporated (NASDAQ:PRTL), a global facilities-based voice, data and Internet telecommunications provider, announced today that it received among the highest ratings for leading telecommunications service companies in an independent survey conducted by the Telecommunications Council of Multinationals (TelCOM).

TelCOM recently released the results of its 1998 Annual Survey to its members and carrier participants.

TelCOM's annual survey rates companies which provide voice and data services primarily to businesses for US-originated long distance and international traffic. The survey is conducted among TelCOM's membership, which includes some of the world's largest multinational companies, to evaluate service providers for their professionalism in sales and marketing efforts, provisioning and installation, operational and service guidelines, and overall value for the customer. PRIMUS Telecommunications, Inc., PRIMUS's North American operating subsidiary, excelled in all categories and received an exceptional 9 out of 10 for Value of Presence in the US, which ranks competitive offerings available in the US marketplace.

"As a relatively new entrant in a very competitive evaluation, it's impressive that PRIMUS Telecommunications scored so high," said Hugh Mohan, Director of Global Telecom for Chiquita Brands International, a participant in the survey. "PRIMUS will play a significant role in the future of global telecommunications."

Commenting on the results of the survey, K. Paul Singh, Chairman and CEO of PRIMUS Telecommunications Group, Incorporated, said, "It is an honor to be recognized by such a distinguished organization as TelCOM. While TelCOM's survey reflects much of the efforts of Joe McQuaid, who is Vice President of PRIMUS's Global Accounts division in New York City, and his staff, it is a testament to the performance levels and brand we have been working so hard to build among large multinational customers that require the integrated voice and data solutions that PRIMUS provides. For our worldwide business customers, which includes certain members of TelCOM, the PRIMUS brand stands for high quality, fully integrated, enhanced communication to points throughout the world, and at attractive prices. Of course, behind the power of this brand is PRIMUS's state-of-the-art global fiber optic network directly connecting 24 countries which is being complemented by our global satellite network which will extend PRIMUS's reach to an additional 80 countries."

"Our success in the annual TelCOM survey in the US follows the February 1999 selection of our UK subsidiary as a 'preferred provider' by the Major Energy Users Council (MEUC)," Mr. Singh continued. MEUC, a purchasing advisory council of more than 180 of the United Kingdom's largest businesses with combined annual telecommunications budgets in excess of $250 million, endorsed PRIMUS as a preferred supplier to MEUC members against proposals from many of the telecom industry's largest, most established operators. According to an MEUC official, PRIMUS was selected based on its competitive prices, network quality and customer service.

"We believe the endorsements of TelCOM in the US and MEUC in the UK support our vision that one company can successfully offer telecommunications services on a global scale," concluded Mr. Singh. "Challenging the telecommunications paradigm, PRIMUS is coming of age as a formidable competitor among Tier-1 caliber service providers worldwide."
