<< Windows NT (which is where win95 is going) is a 32bit preemptive mulitasking environment. The mac is NOT.>>

True, butŠ Win NT is a performance dog and unlikely to win over Mac fans. NT is a server OS and is overkill for most users.

<< It is platform independent.>>

??? No. Motorola is porting NT to the PowerPC chip, but like DEC's Alpha, each Win NT program will have to be recompiled for that processor.

<<However I can see the stockof Apple or Gateway go up in the short term on this newsŠ >>

Licensing is easy revenue for Apple and free marketing for the platform. This is a good move by Apple, however profits (and long-term outlook for the stock) depend on whether Dr. Gil's cutting Apple's breakeven to $9 bil will be low enough should Mac-clone sales take off.

<< In the 8 years that I have owned a computer company, I can tell you that ALL my customers will NEVER switch to MAC EVER. >>

You don't do much work with offset printers and service bureaus who have two price schedules because PC docs take so long on prepress. PCs simply do not have any color matching capabilities like ColorSync or EFI. I have seen many small businesses whose accountant convinced them Wintel PCs were the way, switch to Macs after discovering that for the best results Macs win. Large companies will be rethinking their PC needs if Larry Elison's network computer (NC) gets momentum. (Apple needs a desktop-size Newton that is NC complient.)

Most PCs are sold and not bought. Apple needs to enlist more cloners who know how to sell. (Microsoft won by having an OEM saleforce that threaten duress if they carried any other OS.)

Wait until AAPL dips below 25, then buy some call options.

Good luck. ;_)
