Great idea, but it won't fly.

I suggested something similar to SI back when I first joined. I didn't like the 5-post restriction for new members, and suggested it might be better to impose fees rather than limit the quantity of posts. Their response was that SI insists on maintaining the site free of all charges.

I think it's a noble ojective to maintain free access. But unfortunately, it can't be done without some type of barrier--such as the 5-post restriction. My understanding is that SI doesn't like the 5-post restriction any more than anyone else does. Apparently they were forced into doing something in view of the types of troublemakers we are discussing on this thread. SI thinks the 5-post restriction is the most effective way to mangage the site--not by using fees. And it's certainly their call.

I'm sure they'd be open to any suggestions that don't involve money.
