ALR TECHNOLOGIES INC. TO COMMENCE DELIVERY OF MEDICATION REMINDERS UNDER CANADIAN DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT
REDMOND, WASHINGTON, August 10, 1999 - ALR Technologies Inc. (the "Company" or "ALRT") is pleased to announce that it will begin shipping Medication Reminders to Technilab Pharma Inc. ("Technilab") in August. The initial shipment consists of 50,000 units with an additional 25,000 Medication Reminders scheduled to be delivered to Technilab before the end of September 1999.
The shipment is the first under a Distribution Agreement (the "Agreement")between ALRT and Technilab that calls for an initial placement of 100 Medication Reminders in each of 750 selected pharmacies. The Agreement is for one year with three successive renewals and gives Technilab the distribution rights for ALRT products in Canada. The objective of the Agreement is ultimately to place Medication Reminders in every Pharmacy, Hospital dispensary and Clinic in Canada, (approximately 11,000 outlets).
Under the terms of the Agreement, Technilab will begin an aggressive joint marketing program with ALRT that will encompass working with various regional and national associations such as the Canadian Diabetes Association. The program will demonstrate the value of the Medication
Reminders to the Provincial Health Care Departments. Technilab will also extend the Medication Reminder program to the physician level.
Technilab has been established in Canada since 1974 and has grown to become the third largest generic drug manufacturer with annual revenues in excess of $160 million. The company's activities are comprised of research & development, manufacturing, as well as sales, marketing and distribution.
ALRT has developed proprietary technology to address the problem of non-compliance, estimated to cost the Canadian Health System $9 billion per annum. The Company's primary product is a patented personal medical compliance aid that beeps, alerting patients on time-sensitive schedules
when to take prescribed medication.
