Bob, MMs can and do manipulate the trading, but it is a fool's game, IMO, to try to invest based on one's perception of such manipulation. On a stock that is quite liquid, has a large market cap, broad ownership including good institutional exposure, MMs cannot impact the price beyond very short term trading. Secular trends and large factors such as supply of shares etc, are what truly moves such stocks.

Most MMs, simply try to make the spread, plus small trading gains - larger scale "manipulation" (I do not imply it is illegal) is usually done by hedge funds, not MMs.
