News Release
Mr. Don Sandford reports Net Shepherd has completed the purchase of Answers.com from idealab! The purchase was financed through the issuance of 400,000 common shares of Net Shepherd. As a result of this transaction, idealab! has become a significant Net Shepherd shareholder.
"This is an important day for us, because the commercial potential of this development is enormous," said Don Sandford, president and chief executive officer of Net Shepherd. "In the roadmap which we issued on the 6th of August, we explained the way in which the Answers.com model could be used in the increasingly commercially attractive areas of on-line customer relations and in-company knowledge management," continued Mr. Sandford. Bringing together Answers.com with Net Shepherd's virtual community of hugely productive individuals spread across the globe creates some major commercial possibilities. Guided by our work flow management and quality control technology and our ability to allocate queries to experts, the community's involvement completely transforms the economics of providing answers to queries across the Net.
"As Albert Einstein once said: 'Computers are incredibly fast, accurate and stupid; humans are incredibly slow, inaccurate and brilliant: together they are powerful beyond imagination.'
What we're doing here is making that combination a reality in the field of providing answers to questions across the Net," continued Mr. Sandford. "The use of our proprietary technology will enable Answers.com's customers to radically reduce their costs, improve quality and increase the speed of responses. "This has commercial implications that go far beyond Answers.com's current activity of satisfying people's curiosity by providing answers to questions like why is the sky blue?" said Mr. Sandford.
"As e-commerce and Web-based customer relations become increasingly important for companies, there is a huge market for us in using this new, low-cost, intelligent approach to provide Web-based customer service and help desks. The revenue model we're using means that Net Shepherd will receive income from initial set-up fees, usage fees and a share of any resultant revenue from either advertising or e-commerce transactions," explained Mr. Sandford. "There will be business possibilities inside companies as well," continued Mr. Sandford. "Many companies' intranets are badly structured and it is difficult to get information from them. In this information-driven age, we can make knowledge management more of a reality for these companies by training and using community members to provide internal help desks and answers to employees' information needs." |
