New International Distribution for Registry Magic's Virtual Operator Speech Recognition Leader Strengthens Worldwide Market Position BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 1999--Registry Magic® Incorporated, (NASDAQ:RMAG - news) announced today distribution agreements for the Virtual Operator®, its industry leading speech recognition call processing system, with three leading telecom distributors in South America and the Pacific Rim.
The distributors will market the international versions of the system. VMS Technology, of Malaysia, will additionally utilize the Virtual Operator as a means to speech-enable its future communications server platform.
''Three telecom leaders from around the world have identified the Virtual Operator as the speech recognition product that they will introduce to their sizable markets,'' said Jose Ferrer, Executive Director of International Sales for Registry Magic. ''Our penetration in the United States, where we've sold over twice as many units as our nearest competitor, has led these companies to take advantage of the opportunity that this technology represents.''
In the Pacific Rim, VMS Technology, a leading manufacturer of call processing solutions, will private-label the system as ''Cyber Operator.'' VMS is also incorporating the Virtual Operator software into its next generation unified messaging/VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) platform, utilizing the Virtual Operator Applications Programming Interface to speech enable these additional functions. VMS will initially market ''Cyber Operator'' in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand, with additional markets to follow in 2000.
STS de Argentina, a leading voice mail and phone systems distributor will market the Virtual Operator in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile as ''La Operadora Virtual,'' along with the Virtual Operator Messenger Module, a voicemail module for the system. InfoVox, a leading IVR (Interactive Voice Response) distributor with strong presence in the financial markets, will market the products in Colombia. ''La Operadora Virtual'' is based on a Spanish language version of Lernout & Hauspie's (NASDAQ:LHSPF - news) speech engine, while the VMS products are based on other international Lernout & Hauspie engines.
The Virtual Operator is an award-winning telephone solution that uses proprietary speech recognition technology that listens, understands, and responds to a caller's conversational request. Capable of answering multiple calls simultaneously, the Virtual Operator eliminates placing callers on hold and allows callers to reach an employee or department quickly by just saying their name without the need for inefficient touch-tone menus. Named a 'National Treasure' by the Smithsonian Institution, the Virtual Operator can save a company thousands of dollars in operational costs, improve customer service and enhance corporate image. Used internally, the Virtual Operator can also act as a voice activated directory for an organization. Internationally, where touch-tone technology may not be prevalent, the Virtual Operator can provide voice activated telephone automation enabling advanced applications not available by other means.
