I just picked up some Amati stock today. I've been doing a bit of
research on this, and it definitely seems that a) the baby bells need
ADSL if they are to secure their place as multi-media providers ahead
of (or at least along side of) the cable companies, and b) the
current status of the cable industry infrastructure is not adequate
to provide all the services they would like.

But I have one question. I have tried to find info on Amati's
patent to no avail. What is the patent number, and how may years do
they have left on this ADSL patent?
