Cause and responsibility can be different things. If I fall down a hole in the sidewalk, my fall was caused by my walking down the sidewalk, but the hole was at least partly responsible, and the person who dug the hole and didn't put up a barrier will be held legally accountable even though they were miles away at the time. Drivers who speed cause the results of speeding. But the automobile manufacturers who make automobiles that can go 80 or 90 or 100 miles per hour when there is no public road in the nation where it is legal to drive that fast are also responsible. What is your position on the tobacco litigation. Is it right to hold the industry responsible for the results of peoples' free choice to smoke? Is it right to hold Ford responsible for the deaths of people who chose to drive Pinto cars? (And what are you doing up posting anyhow -- isn't it like 2 am back there? Makes me tired just thinking about it. Go to bed!! After all, I would feel responsible if you had an accident tomorrow because you got tired staying up too late posting to me. <g>)
