DownSouth & thread:
Good posts last night on Intel and value of Gorilla investing:
Without expounding too much, the benefit of Gorilla investing is being driven home to me over the last few months. I am not a pure gorilla investor, but I have been weened from trying to time a stock, buy on rumor, yadyadyada. There are plenty of less risky investments to make in gorillas. You will sleep better....UpNorth
I've been in Intel since Fall of '97; my wife would never let me sell it; it has been more than a double since then. As I understand it, the Gorilla has the best chance of fighting off competition, and Intel has done a superb job of doing that so far, as last night's posts attest. Patience with Intel has been rewarded, and should accelerate with release of 64 bit processors next year and thereafter.
So DownSouth......EMC is a possible gorilla, very likely a King; here is the question......why get rid of EMC? Management is excellent and has a great track record; the industry niche is growing, and is internet-related; EMC doesn't usually disappoint the Market or analysts. These are attributes shared by Cisco and Intel. (Full disclosure....I own EMC, and I sleep pretty well at night with that knowledge.)
Not a criticism here, especially since you put the monies towards JDSU; just lengthening the discussion on investing, gorilla stamina, patience with gorillas, etc. Thoughts by anyone here?
