Flight to quality in US swap market

<< Dr Ed Yardeni, chief economist and global investment strategist at Deutsche Bank, said that the widening in risk spreads from the Y2K effect so far had involved a "flight from quantity" rather than a "flight to quality".

"But I think it could [cause a flight to quality] in the fourth quarter as Y2K uncertainties and risks become even more mainstream," he said.

"If this scenario unfolds as I expect, then US Government bond yields could fall from 6 per cent currently, down closer to 5 per cent by the end of the year and to 4 per cent next year." >>
