stan, good question about "why sell EMC".

With its acquisition of DGN I believe there is a significant chance for EMC management to be distracted from what it does best--large-scale SAN. DGN brings a lot of baggage along with its Clariion product line.

Also, it is yet to be proven that Clariion can be sold effectively in a non-OEM environment. It does not have the price/performance of NTAP and NTAP almost always beats Clariion in competitive fights.

I believe that EMC will successfully make this absorption, but I believe the money will be dead for a few (6) months. So I don't want my money in this king while the kingdom is in any turmoil.

Then there was JDSU, beckoning me to "reinforce the winners". EMC, OTOH, has not been a performer for me this year.

If you boil it down to its essentials, the DGN deal made me re-examine my portfolio. I threw EMC away and reinforced JDSU. I am not afraid to change my mind next month.
