U S WEST Selects Nortel Networks to Increase Network Capacity for Integrated Data and Telephony Services
US$180 Million Agreement: U S WEST Continues Leadership In Providing Customers with High-Speed, Integrated Communications Solutions
DENVER, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ - U S WEST (NYSE: USW) has selected Nortel Networks (NYSE/TSE:NT) to deliver a Unified Networks solution of products and services over the next three years, enabling U S WEST customers to receive a broader set of integrated, high-speed, data and telephony services.
Nortel Networks is providing products and services to enhance U S WEST's network capacity, allowing U S WEST to quickly add and deploy features while efficiently handling greater volumes of voice calls and data transmissions. In conjunction with the agreement, both companies will also collaborate in testing and evaluating key telephony and data products.
The agreement, valued at US$180 million, will help U S WEST meet the growing market demand for next-generation, data networking services that integrate voice, data and Internet capabilities and provide the customer with efficient, cost-effective solutions. Increasing network capacity is critical to enabling U S WEST to meet the growing customer demand for advanced communication services.

Included in the agreement are new processor upgrades to enable U S WEST to offer broad coverage of sophisticated services across its 14-state territory, as well as additional trunks and lines to efficiently handle growing Internet and second-line demand by customers.
