PB - RE: "I know Coppermine is going to kick K6x ass in Mobile. And when Geyserville finally comes, this would seemingly leave AMD in a lurch for this market segment? All IMHO."

Unless Cuontimemine has core enhancements, it is just Dixon with SSE. I don't know if Intel will finally move to a 100MHz bus (like AMD has been at for a long time this year), but I would expect it if they are going to reach 600MHz and above with this chip. And next year it will have that extra technology.

But don't count out the K6-III's performance yet.

Look at this page - amd.com

The only advantage the AMD system has is the 1024K L3 cache vs. the usual 512K. The extra 512K only adds a 2% improvement.

Yes, the K6-III isn't in many notebooks right now, but that may be because it uses much more power than the Intel-equivalent, and in the high-end notebook arena, cost isn't an issue as much as it is with K6-2 notebooks.

Performance-wise, mobile Cuontimemine should run neck-and-neck with the K6-III at the same MHz because FPU isn't too relevant in notebooks. The advantage Intel will have is the same one they have had against the desktop K6-X in the past. MHz.

Am I completely missing something here?

We should wait and see what AMD can do with the .18 mobile K6-III before we rule Cuontimemine as able to kick its ass.
