President, Product Development and Operations
Veteran Executive to Drive Personalization Features of Leading
Internet News Service for Business People
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 11, 1999-- NewsPage.com, the leader in delivering personalized news and information to business people over the Internet, today announced the appointment of Michael H. Welles to the position of vice president, product development and operations. He will report to Ilene H. Lang, president and chief executive officer, NewsPage.com.
Welles brings extensive business, product, marketing and operations experience to NewsPage.com. Most recently, he served as vice president, news operations at NewsEdge Corporation, the parent company of NewsPage.com. He helped lead the integration process that created NewsEdge, formed from the combination of Desktop Data, Individual Inc. and ADP/ISS. Today, NewsEdge is the leading independent provider of global news and current awareness services.

In his new position, Welles will be responsible for NewsPage.com's engineering, quality assurance, product management and operations functions, as well as interfacing with counterparts in these areas at NewsEdge Corporation.
Prior to his role at NewsEdge, Welles served as vice president, engineering at Individual Inc. Before joining Individual, he held several senior level management positions with Lotus Development Corporation. As general manager of Lotus' Next Generation products, he created the business that develops and sells OCX/ActiveX components electronically over the Internet. He also led the development of Improv, an award-winning multidimensional spreadsheet. In addition, Welles has held a variety of marketing and development positions at Symbolics, Data Architects and Data General.
Welles holds a BA degree from Harvard College and an MBA degree from the Tuck Business School at Dartmouth University. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Forrester Research.
