I dissagree, AMD was always a threat but Intel always managed to power back out in front. Still, Intel has never faced a threat like the Athlon, not even close is second place threat, the 386-40. At that time, Intel had the 486 in the wings with a built in FPU. This time, Intel has no new generation chip ready and will have to enhance the old P6 core. Intel will have to do it another way.
