Yes, but is it a "WIN"-tel machine?...Actually, and purists please
don't have a knee jerk reaction because these are difficult times
for AAPL, I think becoming a distributer of wintel machines with
an Apple logo would be a home run! Dell, Gateway, Packard Bell, and
others haven't done so badly with the concept.

Apple can add much value with their outstanding innovation to
such a concept. They can become a driving force in shaping the
direction of these machines, in addition to building on their market
share in the areas where they already dominate.

They already have a trusted recognizable national brand, and are an
icon in computing. So why not jump in and sell Win Tels? And do it
in a very big way? So what if Bill G. makes money on it? Anyways,
in a crazy kind of way, I think that selling Wintel machines and
becoming a driving force in software is a way for Apple to
become an extremely formidable and dominant company in desktop
computing once again.
