Your India comments resonate with me. Why the world's two largest democracies cannot have warmer diplomatic and economic ties has been something that has puzzled me for several years. It may be a residue from India's alliance close ties with the Soviet Union and our "tilt toward Pakistan".

I suspect that the inexorable appetite of politically power hungry people whose vision of "progress" is linked to the concept of a powerful nation state has something to do with it. Like the kings of Europe, the dictators in Beijing think they have some divine right to run things. What amazes me is the number of people who grant them that authority.
