I agree CH4, the SOFC would likely be quite suitable to provide electricity for the passenger railcars.

In my previous internet search for "Auxiliary Power Unit", several references to railway transportation also surfaced. The search results also gave several links pertaining to aircraft, but I am not sure if aircraft manufacturers would consider retrofitting SOFC technology. Who knows for sure!
