>> Ever called MSFT tech support?

Frank, a good response. I wish to add to your post.

I have called MSFT support a few times. The last time I called them was because I was having a problem with OutLook. If you are an OutLook user, you know that if you can't use it then you are in deep trouble.

Anyway, I called support, and yes, I was on hold for 15 minutes, but when the tech came on he did an excellent job of analyzing the problem, helping me recover, and sent me a new version of the program which was delivered in less than 48 hours. He also called me back to be sure everything was OK.

My earlier experiences were similar, but they were a few years ago.

Complaints about MSFT's support are exaggerated, imo. I think problems with support often occur because the customer is an inexperienced PC user and can't RTFM, communicate the problem to the tech, or follow directions.

Education of PC users is an entirely different issue.
