G'day Ron, Steven & all - re: weather, here is an interesting take by Mr David Lamb of the LA Times

latimes.com

Interestingly, many of the leaders seem to be receptive of the environmental concerns, as the following excerpts have suggested

"The root cause of this problem is the denudation of our forests. This is a sin of the past that we are paying for now," Philippine President Joseph Estrada said recently.

After flooding killed 4,000 people last summer in China, Beijing ordered bans on logging. Premier Zhu Rongji admitted that China's environmental polices have been "far from satisfactory."

Now, to my pet peeves :), if only Premier Zhu would realize the plundering of Tibet geo resources would have even worse repercussion to the global climate [since intense logging and mining activities in that region could alter the climactic dynamics of the Himalayas.]

best, Bosco
