Interestingly, many of the leaders seem to be receptive of the environmental concerns, as the following excerpts have suggested

After flooding killed 4,000 people last summer in China, Beijing ordered bans on logging. Premier Zhu Rongji admitted that China's environmental polices have been "far from satisfactory."
Now, to my pet peeves :), if only Premier Zhu would realize the plundering of Tibet geo resources would have even worse repercussion to the global climate [since intense logging and mining activities in that region could alter the climactic dynamics of the Himalayas.]
