The PaineWebber analyst provides a little balance to Merrill this morning.

The PW analyst, Don Young, confirms that notebook supplies indeed have been tight, as many people have speculated. He notes, however, that there could be some upside for DELL for the bottom line, as opposed to some others that have been discussing the downside for the top line.

Apparently, because of the shortage, the price competition during the past quarter has been minimal, and DELL has not needed to be as aggressive on notebook pricing as they normally would. Young speculates that this hasn't hurt the top line too much, but it could provide some gross margin upside as well as a possible upside on the net income line.
