In lieu of the following report, do you see any impact on JDSU?
(By Globe Staff and Wires, 08/12/99) Shares of Waltham-based Oak Industries Inc., which makes electrical components for telecommunications systems, fell 32 percent after the company said it expects third-quarter net income to fall short of analysts' estimates because a major customer stopped buying. Shares fell 13 1/4 to 27 3/4 in trading of 5.8 million, nearly 28 times the three-month daily average. The shares fell to 30 1/2 earlier in the session, prompting a halt in trading to let the company issue a statement.
Oak said it now expects net income in the range of 40 to 42 cents a share. It was expected to earn 49 to 52 cents, the average estimate of four analysts surveyed by First Call Corp.Oak blamed the shortfall on a loss of revenue in its Lasertron fiber-optics components division, based in Bedford. One of the unit's largest customers stopped taking deliveries of high-power pumps used to keep light signals from degrading as they move through miles of fiber-optic telephone networks.(Bloomberg)

Could it be that Lasertron's customer stopped taking delivery, not because of decreased demand, but because it's ordering from elsewhere, such as JDSU. |
