Let's add a little perspective here spongebrain. On February 2 of this year NITE (Knight/Trimark) filed for a secondary offering of 9 million shares (almost 20% of the float at that time) 6 million to come from shareholders and 3 million to come from the company. At that time NITE was rising steadily and correcting only in tandem with overall market downturns. I bailed out fearing that the sudden increase in supply would drive the price down. Immediately following that announcement NITE more than tripled in price and split. My point is that dropping a mere 800K shares (less than 4%) of a very hot stock onto the market is probably not sufficient knock down the price. It might slow the rise temporarily but it is not sufficient in itself to do much damage to a stock that wants to rise.
