FundAce--

In principle I'm by no means at odds with the idea of transparency and clarification of intent on the part of central bankers. It ought to be a Good Thing.

Only it's not. Now we have super press hype, hysteria in the markets, everytime Uncle Alan opens his mouth. He could say: "I don't like pizza with extra cheese" and God only knows what might happen. If nothing else, the statement would be dissected, and, well, digested, for days, until he or another FedHead opened his mouth once again. Is this really any better than when they never ever said anything, just acted? Certainly it gives the folks on CNBC something to talk about...

European G7 countries: yes, fiscal austerity doesn't come amiss after all these years of insane spending, but... If they go too far too fast--and there's a real danger of that--the present economic stagnation will go on for years, and may worsen. Too high a price to pay? Maybe. Never mind the possibilities for social unrest. Trust me: you try to take away "entitlements" workers have enjoyed for the past 25 years and there'll be hell to pay.
