There may not be much of a choice. If Intel sticks to its present roadmap, the performance halo is going to be associated with Athlon and PC133 / VC DRAM. Timna is aimed at the sub 1K - actually more like $500 pc market. An extra $100 cost in this market for an otherwise equivalent machine is going to be a pretty tough burden to carry. If rambus were always associated with the fastest PCs it might have been possible sale, but who wants to pay 20% extra for technology used by second rate machines and avoided by all of the performance leaders in every comparison?
