Fascinating. That story was something e-mailed to me, I'm not sure who wrote it up.

I recently heard of the Night Battle at Guadalcanal, which I had been unaware of. Apparently some American cruisers took on a Japanese battleship fleet, sailing between two rows of ships and firing at point blank range. Two American admirals were awarded the Navy Cross posthumously, both their cruisers sunk. It took some kind of courage to attack battleships with cruisers at close range.

I saw some survivors of the Bismark describe what it was like to be on the receiving end of big naval guns. Guaranteed to give you the creeps.
