RESEARCH ALERT-Audible initiated with BUY, Volpe Brown Whelan

SEATTLE, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Volpe Brown Whelan and Co. initiated coverage of
Audible Inc. with a buy rating, analyst Derek Brown said Thursday.

-- Company, which offers audio programming for purchase over the Internet, should be
a prime beneficiary of new portable devices and broadband solutions, Brown said.

-- Losses seen rising to $1.04 a share next year from an estimated $0.92 a share this year.

Audible was up 2-9/16 at 11-1/2.
