Pharmaceutical Corporation of America Chooses e-MedSoft.com to Web-Enable Nationwide Pharmaceutical Delivery System
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1999-- e-MedSoft.com (OTC BB:MDTK) Thursday announced that it has entered into an agreement with Pharmaceutical Corporation of America (''PCA'') under which PCA will utilize e-MedSoft.com's Internet-based system for the marketing and distribution of pharmaceutical products and prescription drugs to health-care providers and consumers across the United States.
PCA, with headquarters in Indianapolis, is one of the nation's leading repackagers and distributors of pharmaceutical products to medical facilities and institutions.
Founded in 1981, PCA provides more than 3,000 pharmaceutical products in varying strengths and sizes to such customers as the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center (one of the five largest hospitals in the United States), the U.S. Department of Defense, the Veterans Administration, and numerous managed care organizations and point-of-care facilities throughout the country.
Through its customers, PCA provides pharmaceutical products to in excess of 3 million patients per year.
PCA will become the exclusive supply arm of the e-MedSoft.com electronic health-care system, as the parties work toward expanding e-MedSoft.com's current Internet pharmaceutical environment to a national Web-enabled pharmaceutical delivery system designed to provide pharmaceutical and related medicinal products both to consumers and to physicians.
Through e-MedSoft.com, physicians will transmit prescriptions electronically directly to PCA, and those prescriptions will be filled from PCA directly to the patients by overnight express delivery. Alternatively, prescriptions can be electronically directed to local pharmacies for same-day pickup. Patients whose doctors are not connected to the e-MedSoft.com system will be able to order their prescriptions directly from the e-MedSoft.com Web site.
In addition, e-MedSoft.com plans to offer related health-care products for sale, such as health and beauty aids, vitamins and natural health products. Further, e-MedSoft.com will provide extensive information on medicines and pharmaceuticals, to both doctors and patients, including drug uses, potential side effects and potential harmful drug interactions.
Mason Goodman M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of PCA, stated: ''Having been in the pharmaceutical distribution business for almost 20 years, our entree into Internet distribution is clearly a natural and expected move. We chose to partner with e-MedSoft.com because we are convinced e-MedSoft.com provides the broadest and most effective technology in the industry, and that will give us a significant competitive advantage.
''It may sound like a buzz word, but connectivity is undoubtedly becoming a key in health care, as doctors, patients, drug suppliers, insurance companies and other players 'connect' and communicate, as never before possible, on Web-enabled systems such as those of e-MedSoft.com.
''e-MedSoft.com will allow us to deliver quality products through their connectivity in a cost-effective way, facilitating our long-term success. With e-MedSoft.com we are confident we will continue to be a leader in pharmaceutical distribution well into the next century.''
John F. Andrews, chairman and CEO of e-MedSoft.com, said: ''Partnering with PCA was extremely important in marrying pharmaceutical distribution to the e-MedSoft.com suite of products and services. In dealing with pharmaceuticals and other medicines, safety is our No. 1 concern, and we would not feel comfortable working with a company that did not have the extensive experience and the track record of PCA.
''We need to know that when a customer orders products through e-MedSoft.com, that customer will receive superlative service from a company they can trust. PCA is that company.
''Pharmaceuticals is a $110 billion industry, and a key function of health-care delivery. Yet the process of prescribing and delivering medicine to patients is archaic -- sick people carrying illegibly written slips of paper down to the drug store. Our goal at e-MedSoft.com from the beginning has been to automate medical processes, and to provide connectivity to all participants in those processes.
''Doing so provides costs savings, improves the delivery of health care, and allows patients the opportunity to play a more significant role in managing their own health and treatment. Of course, the sale of pharmaceuticals will now provide e-MedSoft.com with an added source of revenues.
''In other industries the Internet may be providing new methods of marketing products or finding information -- but in health care, the Internet is fostering a revolution as technology and Internet connectivity finally provide a common platform of information available to everyone, whether individual or health-care professional. e-MedSoft.com is at the forefront of that revolution.
''Further, we believe the foundation we are developing at e-MedSoft.com may be the precursor to a single, standard operating platform and patient database within the medical community.''
