In my reply to BK I said: "Yes, the failure of one or more specialized parts suppliers would cause great disruption, but it seems whenever you are dealing with a critical resource, you establish a second or third source of supply." Where did I claim anything? You said: "might be interesting to learn what the feds think is 'stockpiled' that we don't have stockpiled. anyone know where to find the current list?" I would like to know the answer to this one too. When you find the fed stockpile list, be sure to post it. Us non-doomRealists are fact challenged. You asked if I ever retooled a milling machine, and then proceeded to load up the doom threshold in an attempt to show how futile it would be to even think of such a task. My answer: No, no and no. Not my specialty. I don't know exactly how dependent my life is on precision ball bearings. None of that gives me any reason to believe the original premise that Y2K could cause any or all of the above to fail. You failed to add any reason that may convince me. And by the way I do not have an 'office gal'. Don't you think that the manufacturers of ball bearings (or any other critical product) realize that their production capacity or quality could suffer if they do not address the issue of Y2K? There are two very real threats to these manufacturers here. 1. They may go out of business if they do not prepare. 2. Their Y2K compliant competitors will capture the lost business and prosper. You may want to add these items to your worry list.
