re: Backtesting tools

In the background, I am once again engaged in backtesting some "price pattern" setups. I'm wondering if anyone else on-thread can share recommendations/wisdom.

In the past, I spent nearly three years immersed in Tradestation, writing systems, hiring programming consultants, etc and don't want to get into that mode/complexity again. TS has a lot of anomolies, and I'm not really that great of programmer myself. I can deal with backtesting tools that are more oriented towards stocks, and simpler/cleaner than the TS experience.

I'm considering Metastock, which I've used, and maybe Excel, which can do a decent job with backtesting via VBA (I'm signed up for a course on that). Also, I run WOW and it has limited backtesting capabilities. But I have a feeling there is something better out there.

Anyone have a recommendation, or wisdom to share? I want something simple - like SystemWriter (Larry Williams backtesting tool of choice). I'd use something like that, but I don't think you can buy it anymore.

Thanks, and good trading.

-Steve
