CBOT closes early amid power woes
ComEd electric-plant problems halt CBOE trading

Lynn Howard, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Board Options Exchange, said that trading there was halted at 1:40 p.m. Chicago time to start back-up generators, as the exchange had been warned that ComEd would cut power to the exchange at 1:45 p.m. Trading was resumed at 2:15 p.m. Chicago time.

Howard said the CBOE was running on generators for only a short time, as ComEd did not actually cut power to the exchange.

Howard said she expects the CBOE to open Friday at 8:30 a.m. local time, the normal time.

A ComEd customer-service representative said power will be restored to the futures and options exchanges Friday, but she was unable to give an estimate on how long the repairs to the transformers would take.

Meanwhile, a representative from the corporate-communications division of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange said the power shortage wasn't having any impact at the Merc, although the exchange was working to minimize power usage.
