I wasn't kidding about the USR PCMICA modems. You are welcome to correct me.

Being that USR is the largest seller of modems, I'm sure they make a wonderful desktop modem otherwise they would not be business. Unless, of course, it is just marketing.

I'm sorry you disblieve me. I am quite good friends with our hardware services support techs. They specifically told me about the problems they had with the USR PCMCIA modems and about how most of them were being sent back for repair.

It is my understanding that the earlier generation of the USR 28.8k modems could not handle the heat generated in the new Pentium laptops.

Note: One of the modems I received from USR was "broken" out of the box. When I installed it in my laptop, it (or my laptop) emmitted a shrill sound.

Maybe it's just me. But, I don't seem to have this affect on other electronic equipment.
