Hot chips was suppose to have AMD showing a RDAM enabled chip, but based upon yesterdays news, I guess that won't happen.

seems that way. according to that press report.

Also, no discussion of the AMD/RMBS piece!?

oldtimer on yahoo had some excellent comments...

"intel put a lot of resources into working on chipsets that work with Rambus technology, and, that it has proved to be a very difficult task. MY GUESS is that AMD cannot, at the moment, parallel Intels system results, or even make Rambus work using their own chipsets. How would it look if AMD had to use Intel's 820 chipset and other parts besides the processor to make the system work, or could they even do that legally? I BELIEVE, that AMD would make the system work with Rambus, IF THEY COULD. And, if they cannot, Intels market share will get larger from where it is today. This, of course, all hinges on the 'total performance' of the system. In a way, AMD not using Rambus, if the recent article is true, is a VERY BAD SIGN for AMD because it means they have fewer options for a cusotmer driven market. As far as RAM goes, Rambus is here now, DDR is 'months' away from working samples. Why else would AMD not want to inlcude Rambus? They can't, is my conculsion."

"that they would include Rambus as an option. Now they say to expensive. That it would add up to $80 per motherboard to equip them for Rambus. It sounds suspicious that they would not make ANY motherboards as an option for those customers who 'demand' Rambus technology. That is why I say THEY CAN'T PROVIDE IT, in my opinion, or they would provide it as an option. Particularly since they claim this chip will get them into the workstation or server market. Not providing it makes zero sense to me, particularly since Rambus will be avialable. "
