Jock, I think I may have to join the Summa-bulls club, if you and Addi will have me. What I'm talking about here is an upgrade for Xilinx today to NT/LT buy by ML. Below is what Yahoo has on it, but on CNBC they had some more words. ML, they say, expects 2002 earnings to be about $2.35 per share because of their great new FPGAs. They then go ahead and award 35X those 2002 predicted earnings to come up with a target price of $82 a share. 2002! What could LSI's earnings possible be out there? First Call has mean 2000 at $2.05. Unless we get the dreaded C word (cyclical down), and LSI keeps growing even at 10-15% per year, LSI should clock Xilinx's $2.35 in 2002. Well, long way off, and LSI has a lot of executing to get even get to that $2.05 in '00.
``Xilinx has executed flawlessly on its newest high-density, high-performance family of field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), named Virtex, that appears to be seeing an outstanding acceptance rate among designers.'
-- Xilinx's ``new products, including the 4000XLA and 9500XL families, are just beginning to ramp into production, giving the company very strong positioning in the early stages of a product cycle and semiconductor recovery.'
