Fri 13 Aug 99 News Release
Mr. Dan Clark reports
Further to the news release on Stockwatch, Aug. 10, 1999, Opawica
Explorations Inc. has declared that all assays for the pyrite zones
encountered in Hole K64-48B contained no significant values in Cu, Pb, Zn,
Ag or Au. Hole K64-48B was the fifth hole completed to date on the
60-per-cent Falconbridge Ltd. -- 40-per-cent Opawica base metals
exploration project currently under way on the Chance Rhyolite package
centred two kilometres northwest of the Kidd Creek mine near Timmins, Ont.
Analytical work was carried out by Swastika Laboratories Ltd. of Swastika,
Ont., using standard atomic absorption techniques. Swastika is accredited
by the Standards Council of Canada and is independent from both
Falconbridge and Opawica.
The next phase of the Chance Rhyolite program is scheduled to consist of
drilling of up to three more deep diamond drill holes. One of these holes
will undercut Hole K64-48B to test beneath the significant pyrite
concentrations encountered in that hole, which may be peripheral to a
larger sulphide system. The considerable thickening of the Chance Rhyolites
in Hole K64-48B further suggests that another volcanic centre may exist at
depth. Volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits are typically associated with
the above features. Exact hole positioning will be contingent on the
results of recently completed downhole electromagnetic surveys. A separate
off-hole anomaly is scheduled to be drilled to test an electromagnetic
anomaly detected within historic Hole K64-45. K64-45 is 125 metres to the
east of Zn intersections in previous holes K64-43B (1.2 per cent Zn / 1.4
metres) and K64-43A (5.3 per cent Zn/ 1.38 metres). This feature is in a
previously untested sector of the Chance Rhyolites on the Whitestar portion
of the property and is approximately 500 metres east of Hole K64-48B.
During this current phase of work, a third hole is scheduled contingent on
results from the upcoming two holes outlined above.
Drilling is expected to resume by Friday, Aug. 20, 1999.
