Mehrdad,

I'm sorry, we must be reading different articles.

Gary, stop deluding yourself, read the article again. No where does it manifest that the problems are 3Com specific and for that matter ATT
has no intent on dropping COMS for Cisco

From the article I read - first paragraph...

AT&T, plans to replace its 3Com network equipment with alternative technology
from rival Cisco Systems in some markets

- more -

However, sources confirm that Cisco technology will soon replace 3Com equipment in parts of AT&T's sprawling cable
network, one of several systems that deliver Net access services from Excite@Home. Cisco, the leading data
networking equipment firm, may also become the primary provider of cable equipment for the high-speed service as it
expands, they said.

I agree that this doesn't mean that COMS is out, only that T will be replacing COMS equipment with CSCO equipment in some market - not all (I never said all) - but some.

Investor Relations at ATT you will be apprised that it is not ATT's intent of replacing any of 3Coms' currently used cable devises with
Cisco's.

Investor relations is concerned with company spin and with maintaining relationships with current suppliers. They will do nothing to compromise this. I am not surprised that they made this statement however, the article - which is what this "discussion" is about - says different. The COMS folks who were interviewed for the article did not argue that this was not the case which would lead me to believe that T is in fact replacing some COMS equipment with CSCO equipment. There is no delusion here... just facts...

It's true that some of the issues appear to stem from incompatibilities between the COMS solution and existing products already installed, however it's unclear what those products are.... If they are the USRX products then shame on COMS for not completing requisite interoperability testing. If not, shame on COMS for not completing interoperability testing with T infrastructure prior to going live.

I will ignore your last comment (re: DUNCE) since I'm not short. I do agree that at these prices COMS is a buy...there is little downside risk. However I'm not all that optimistic about performance given history but am still hoping for a buyout. Given the limited downside I do think this is a safe investement. Still, COMS looks like a bunch of clowns in comparison to their competitors.
