China Warns U.S. It May Take Military Action Against Taiwan, NYT Reports

Beijing, Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Chinese officials have told
the U.S. that China may take military action against Taiwan to
``punish' the island, the New York Times reported, citing
unnamed Clinton administration officials. The officials said it
isn't clear if China has made a definite decision on what kind
of action to take against Taiwan. Direct military action against
Taiwan itself appears to be the least likely option, they said;
other options include seizing an unpopulated island controlled by
Taiwan, they said.
