Ascend's Max 4000 is a dog - 3Com, Shiva, Cisco beating it badly. Frame relay is slowing, high-end Remote access is owned by Ascend but being challanged, Broadband access is in its infancy. The only product of inmmediate relevance I can see that CSCC has that Ascend really wants is ATM switches. This is perhaps a good long, long term deal but in the near and mid-term is very bad for Ascend shareholders in my view.
