_____Timing Is Everything: Borland Posts Beta Of JBuilder___
Borland International Inc. last week posted a free public
beta of its long-delayed Borland JBuilder, a graphical
development tool for Java application development that
uses a graphical interface similar to its popular Delphi
rapid application development (RAD) tool.

JBuilder is a JDK 1.1-compliant Java development toolkit for
building cross-platform, client-server applications entirely
in Java. It supports the JavaBeans specification as well as
Microsoft's ActiveX component technology, JDBC (Java
Database Connectivity) and ODBC (Open Database Connectivity)
for database access, and comes with a library of pre-built
JavaBeans for rapidly building applications.

JBuilder was first announced last August, but has been
plagued by delays. It had been shown under the code name
Latte for some time. In February, Borland licensed JBuilder
to Oracle, along with C++Builder, for use in future Oracle
development tools. Borland will be giving out copies and
demonstrating the JBuilder at JavaOne and Software
Development '97 Conferences in San Francisco this week.
JBuilder can be downloaded from
borland.com. Borland expects to ship
JBuilder in the third quarter.--Andy Patrizio
