RocketMan--Maybe it's a combination. AOL does not pay any incremental amount per user for its programming, but it does for each line and support. I think it's a hybrid. You know I read an article somewhere about how advertising $$ are shifting to the internet from standard sources--e.g. magazines etc. Magazines are another great analogy--there the consumer pays half and the advertiser pays half (don't really know the relative percentages). Plus there is this whole sort of shift to paying for eyeballs--this is just very tvish in orientation. And then you have the capacity to really deliver eyeballs to a retailer--take the AOL/Etoys deal. I don't think any of this is set in stone or right or wrong. I think it's just shifting seas at this point. But it is important not to get stuck thinking its gotta work like one model. Anyway, today I'm long AOL. Long live AOL!
