Peter,

The Digital-Me portal site will get here soon. Just look at the site. They are testing internally now. I am just so happy that NOVL was either on the same wave-length as us on the board or were listening to us and likely others that said they had to put Digital-Me live on the Internet and not just sell the product in the box.

I will predict right here and now that as soon as the site becomes live for the public, it will catch on like wild-fire! Word-of-mouth will spread fast and Internet users will register and use it in droves. NOVL's initial fears that no one would trust putting personal information in NOVL's hands will quickly be forgotten by so many that will see the value of a secured directory-enabled Internet portal. I'm first in line! I guess cause I know what it has to offer me.

BTW - did you all know that NOVL now formally has a distinct business unit called "In The Net" that will focus on delivering Internet services/solutions (using NOVL and partnering technologies I would safely assume)? Remember when I was rasping earlier this year and late last year that they should create a separate BU or Division that would not take direction from a product development oriented company. Looks like someone inside NOVL was thinking or listening.

I am again more optimistic now that I have seen signs that they are doing the Internet "Services" and "Solutions" the right way (or at least the way I think they should do it). With this new Business Unit, I am excited at what NOVL can now actually demonstrate to the Internet world!

Lets hope that the digital-me gets going fast and it is done right. Afterall it has to come out of the blocks intuitive and lookin' goooood or they risk losing their spot in the limelight. The NDSv8 structure behind the looks better be fully secured as well and well structured. They should also have a section of the site that fully explains how and why its secured.

In fact, they might even consider putting their necks out on the line and challenge the site to be hacked (but maybe I believe too strongly in NDS's ability to secure the data) during the early stages prior to putting actual users on the portal site. It would be up to the NOVL development Engineers to call the shot as to how comfortable they are that the site is near inaccessible to hackers. As an Internet user, I would be very secure in knowing that NOVL is confident enough to openly challenge the world of hackers to try to break in (and better when no one meets their challenge). This should be a Critical Success Factor test for NOVL prior to public release of the portal site. Afterall, its better that any security flaws are realized now than if it were to happen after 50,000 users have already stored personal data in the NDS structure.

I agree with Scott that the final level of security would be if the data in the safes were encrypted by the owner of the safes.

I have to re-read the information on the digital-me design in Netware Connections.

Anyway, Cheers folks!
