It is not a rumor. It is a fact. Sega's U.S. President, Bernie Stolar is no longer employed by Sega and just three weeks prior to the Sega Dreamcast release. All the analysts are saying that Stolar's removal will not have an adverse affect on the launch. In fact, many feel the company was in dire need of new blood to revitalize the company. I personally think that the new console and its associated games and supporting hardware will speak for themselves. Gamers will either love the new system and if so it will be a tremendous success, or they won't. Everything I have been able to read so far leads me to believe the new system will be successful. It will come with a modem, be internet capable and be supported at introduction with anywhere from 16 to 20 new game titles. Everything will depend on just how much market Sega can re-capture from Sony and Nintendo. They will certainly have a good headstart with the Dreamcast but they will be fighting against some very strong customer loyalty built up over the years by Sony and Nintendo. It will be interesting to watch it all unfold. The only certainty is that Electronics Boutique will benefit greatly from all the excitement and hoopla created by the million dollar advertising/PR campaigns of first Sega with the Dreamcast and then Sony with their new system coming next year, followed closely by Nintendo about six months after that. Business should be very brisk for at least the next two to three years.
Good luck,
RBL
