Thanks for link to that article.

Particularly since Y2Ktoday is headed by former CEO of UPS - United Press International. [He was also a witness at a senate hearing a couple of months ago.] Helps lend credibility. I'm finally seeing some "investigative reporting", with a reporter asking hard questions, and understanding issues.

John Koskinen's a nice guy. He's in a tough position. But, I was amazed at the "double-speak" in that interview. Some of what he said, were blatant lies, and were easily documented. This interview is what I needed to convince some "fence sitters".

BTW: I found this part particularly interesting ..........
========================================================

Y2Ktoday: What if they are taken by surprise in their community by a major failure, and they've been living under the perception that they didn't need to do anything to prepare for that?

Koskinen: That's right. Those people are then likely to be less prepared and more anxious. [Let's say] you're in a community that hasn't prepared, or thought they had, but has a mistake, and it's Friday, and you're sitting comfortable in your house. And you've got a three-or-four day supply of food and water and flashlights and batteries and you're watching the game and something goes on. You're going to be a lot less concerned than if you're sitting in that house counting on, "Why don't I go down to the store tomorrow and buy some food."

So if you ask me what's the right result of that poll, it's "87 percent of the people say that, two weeks before the end of the year, they're going to make sure that they have a minimum three-day supply of food and water for the weekend ... That's the right answer.
===============================================

Huh? I'm confused.

Is Koskinen now advocating that people wait until the last 2 weeks of the year, to stockpile food, water, batteries, meds and alternate heat supply??? What about "just-in-time" inventory? Can you imagine the panic that would ensue, if people waited until the last 2 weeks of the year? We all know there would not be adequate inventory to meet demand.

Here's the poll being discussed:

Nearly a fifth of U.S. households may stock up on food or water because of concerns about the Y2K problem, but the majority are planning no preparations ... Eighteen percent of those surveyed said they were thinking about stocking up on water and/or food. Other precautions include withdrawing cash from the bank, upgrading computers and copying financial and electronic records.

How in the world did Koskinen come up with:

<<"87 percent of the people say that, two weeks before the end of the year, they're going to make sure that they have a minimum three-day supply of food and water for the weekend.>>

Like I said. I like Koskinen. He's a nice guy. He's in a tough position. But he blew it with this interview. Though, fortunately for him, most will never read this interview. I just hope mainstream media doesn't pick up on this "last two weeks" and use it as a sound-bite.

His comment was wishful thinking. Plus you know, as well as I, that Koskinen doesn't want people to wait until the last 2 weeks of the year. He wants them to start preparing now ... and have it done before the last 2 weeks of the year.

If anyone didn't bother to read this entire interview ... DO IT!! The first part is boring to some because it's kinda technical ... but page down a bit ... and read the last half. Page down 20 times, and read the remainder of the interview.

Koskinen: As you know, you've got to be very careful and precise in these issues and not over-generalize ....

When I ask in Miami, they are talking about their preparedness in the community, and we're urging people for 7-10 days. Because that's their experience with hurricanes. In Los Angeles they're talking about a week, because they've had those kind of experiences

P.S. Now he's using the term "at the minimum" for prep advice. It's fascinating and frustrating to see how this unfolds. Remember, I managed multi-million dollar advertising and PR campaigns.
